Integral Development Associates case histories:

Examples of how Integral Development Associates have worked with clients include (client names and details have been omitted to preserve confidentiality):

 Organizational Programs

Improving Performance- IDA led a series of workshops for a governmental agency interested in solving several issues. One group involves a staff of adjudicators who serve an underserved population in the province. After IDA's education into new ways of managing their attention and in the various ways that people make meaning of their worlds, the typical time that it took for an adjudicator to move a case through the system dropped from about 8 1/2 weeks to less than a week. The same client is now looking at new integrally informed decision-making patterns and organizational structures.

Ending A Civil War - After meetings with senior hospital management, IDA designed a series of meetings to enable department representatives to productively discuss what had previously been a source of volatile conflict. The meetings fostered a level of trust and communication that enabled the hospital to create new solutions to issues such as patient safety and staff satisfaction.

Enhanced Leadership Effectiveness -- IDA, in partnership with the Stagen Institute, developed a management development track for a high-technology company to build capacity in six key areas:

  • Complex perspective-taking
  • Ethical and moral decision-making
  • Self-awareness and control
  • Relationship and team building
  • Integration of workplace spirituality
  • Physical energy management and wellness

Reducing Turnover in Healthcare - IDA designed a series of workshops, small group training and one-on-one coaching using the "immunity to change" technology for a hospital struggling to keep a specific department's director in office for more than a few months at a time. As a result, senior management, key department staff and the current department head learned to see system dynamics more clearly and see how to influence change. Since the intervention, the leadership has been consistent and stable for a period of years.

Online Innovation - IDA created and led a series of teleclasses to assist a pharmaceutical manufacturing company develop and implement innovation. The teleclass structure shifted over time from a teaching-delivery mode to the team's designing, testing and launching of test programs. IDA's role shifted from teacher to coach and advisor. Within six months, the program resulted in thousands of dollars of new revenue.  We worked with this client in partnership with Stagen Leadership Institute.

Treating "founder's syndrome" - A nationally recognized non-profit organization hired IDA to help them make a crucial transition in the life of a highly influential organization. IDA, working with key leadership, developed a series of meetings to help surface unmentionables and ?sacred cows. IDA took each step of the "immunity to change" process as the basis for an entire meeting.  Senior leadership explored the situation in depth.  IDA was able to introduce other elements of integral theory (personality types, lines of development, sex/gender issues, organizational life-cycle and so forth) as needed. In time, management and senior staff were able to cope positively with difficult aspects of their transition.

Shifting the system - This client (an education entity) noticed a deep-rooted problem that everyone on the staff wished were different, but could find only temporary leverage to address. The problem had been just under the surface of their attention for more than three years, but when it came to an extremely painful head, leadership brought IDA in to help them create a way out of the problem.  The solution that they were able to articulate after a short set of workshops and one-on-one coaching will last substantially longer than any previous effort. The client sensed a powerful shift underway within weeks.

Diversity: The next generation - A large, high-tech client already has a progressive and enviably successful set of diversity programs and initiatives in place, and is hoping to move beyond what most other organizations are still only hoping for. IDA was able to help them to make this move carefully by providing new perspectives and frameworks, resulting in the piloting of an integrally informed pilot leadership program for women executives.

Executive Coaching

Enhancing Performance - The senior manager of a highly profitable group in a large high-tech company relied on IDA's advice for more than two years as she took her department to increasingly higher levels of performance.

Creating Cultural Change - A professor of nursing, the department head at a prestigious university, was encountering resistance from university leadership as she tried to rebuild her department in a more collaborative mode. With IDA?s help, she was able to accomplish her objectives and minimize resistance to her efforts.

Addressing Complexity - The senior executive at this non-profit client serves clients with widely varying backgrounds, interests, values, geographies and more. With IDA's help she has learned to engage each of these subgroups in the ways that are specifically meaningful and useful to each.

Amplifying Excellence - Leading a national initiative associated with the delivery of palliative care was already an outstanding success for this professor of nursing and national opinion leader. Working with IDA, she hopes to be able to help others to recreate the success of her efforts.

Integrating Merging Companies - A consultant specializing in mergers and acquisitions worked with IDA to develop strategies for braiding the systems and process of one organization with another, and also to tend to the frequently unaddressed aspects of culture intermixing.

Managing The Difficult But Brilliant Employee - One client wanted to save the career of a technically brilliant, highly productive manager who was developing a reputation as an intimidator. IDA's intervention led to a resolution that worked for the best for all parties involved.
